{"id":3800,"date":"2022-07-11T11:24:49","date_gmt":"2022-07-11T09:24:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/i4wpdev.cs.fau.de\/?page_id=3800"},"modified":"2022-09-13T13:52:25","modified_gmt":"2022-09-13T11:52:25","slug":"lab","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/i4wpdev.cs.fau.de\/en\/lab","title":{"rendered":"Laboratory"},"content":{"rendered":"The laboratory offers a variety of different systems for theses and research activities at our chair.\r\n<h2>Rooms<\/h2>\r\nThe chair offers two rooms with workstations for students:\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>the <i>Manlobbi<\/i> (room 0.058) with 12 fully equipped workstations and<\/li>\r\n \t<li>the <i>Bello Labs<\/i> (room 0.033) with 5 workstations, which can be equipped with additional hardware (e.g. for measurements).<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\nYour <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fau.de\/card\/\">FAUcard<\/a> will be granted access in the <a href=\"https:\/\/wwwcip.informatik.uni-erlangen.de\/cipPools\/doorAccess.en.html\">door locking system<\/a> for the main entrances of the chair as well as the <i>Manlobbi<\/i> (and also <i>Bello Labs<\/i>, if required)\r\n<h2>Laboratory workstations<\/h2>\r\nThe hostname scheme starts with <tt>faui49<\/tt>, appended by the colloquial room name and the workstation number (<tt>faui49{man,bello}{1-12}<\/tt>).\r\n\r\n<b>Please note:<\/b>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>These systems are independent from the CIP, i.e. they require separate credentials and the home directories are also managed separately.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Due to technical reasons, students are often given extensive access permissions (<tt>root<\/tt>). Accordingly, sensitive data should not be stored on any of the systems, nor should the permissions be used for purposes other than those for which they were intended.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>On each system, data can be stored temporarily in a personal folder at <tt>\/srv\/scratch<\/tt> followed the user name. But there is no guarantee that the data will stay there!<\/li>\r\n \t<li>If you intend to change the hardware setup, please consult the person responsible for the room in advance!<\/li>\r\n \t<li>The workstations are accessible via the jumphosts <tt>i4lab{1,2}.cs.fau.de<\/tt> via SSH, e.g. you can access the host <tt>faui49man1<\/tt> via the command <tt>ssh -J i4lab1.cs.fau.de faui49man1<\/tt><\/li>\r\n \t<li>In order to save energy, the hosts are switched off when not in use. To wake them up again you can issue the command <tt>wake<\/tt> with the target host(s) as parameter(s)\r\nvia the jumphosts (within a few seconds), e.g. <tt>ssh i4lab1.cs.fau.de wake faui49man1<\/tt><\/li>\r\n \t<li>Long-running unattended tasks should be wrapped with &#8220;<tt>systemd-inhibit --what=idle &lt;cmd&gt;<\/tt>&#8221; to prevent the host&#8217;s automatic suspension during the task&#8217;s execution.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>If the recommended systemd-inhibit cannot be used, then it is possible to create a flag file using &#8220;<tt>touch \/var\/tmp\/inhibit-autosuspend<\/tt>&#8221; to disable the automatic suspension.
